Victorville Community CollegesVictor Valley College is the community college system that covers Victorville California and the surrounding areas including Hesperia, Apple Valley, and Phelan California. As with other community colleges across the nation Victor Valley College offers two year degrees along with vocational training and certificate programs to assist students and to meet the needs of the surrounding community. A brief history Victor Valley College began administering classes in 1961 working out of Victor Valley High School. In 1963 construction began on Victor Valley's primary campuses and opened in 1965. As the resident population of the High Desert evolved Victor Valley College adapted to meet the needs and demands of new students. The core campus added academic buildings and programs including an advanced technology building, a library, and an expanded planetarium and student activities center. In 2012 Victor Valley Community college opened its first satellite campus in Apple Valley. This campus, known unofficially as the Eastside Center, is expected to be prepared for the coming 2013-2014 school year. Courses offered Victor Valley College offers nearly 40 major course studies. Popular programs include registered nursing, business management, and core degrees reflected in liberal studies. Other majors such as welding, music, and animation are also offered for students interested in completing foundational courses prior to transferring to four year universities. Location Victor Valley College is located on the southern edge of the Mojave Desert, located in the City of Victorville. The campus is located near Los Angeles and Orange County offering students a vast array of educational possibilities once core classes are completed. Population growth Victorville and the High Desert has seen tremendous growth despite economic difficulties in the state of California. Currently Victor Valley College averages 12,000 full-time enrolled students. These numbers make Victor Valley one of the largest community colleges in the state of California. To accommodate the number of students Victor Valley employs a full time staff of over 600 instructional employees. Due to the incredible population growth Victor Valley College is continuing expansion plans and calling for facility improvements to manage a projected 30,000 students by 2017. Victor Valley Community College's future With Victor Valley Community college facing phenomenal growth its future looks positive. Despite economic turbulence in the state education continues to remain a top priority for legislatures and more money is destined to flow from the state budget.
